Adventures with Vermonter Dylan Crossman

We caught up with our friend Dylan Crossman a few days ago – not in Vermont, but on our last day in Utah’s Wasatch Mountains, at Alta Ski Area, at the tail end of a nearly 100″ snow cycle. Dylan, who grew up skiing Vermont’s Mad River Glen, dominated the US Telemark Freeskiing Extremes in Crested Butte for several years, and in 2008, stepped into a pair of alpine skis and won the US Alpine Freeskiing Extremes at Snowbird, Utah. Dylan’s always a pleasure to hang and ski with, he’s got a truly humble and friendly personality, and his talent as a skier is off the charts. Here’s Dylan captured mid-air while gracefully performing a 30’+ backflip in the late afternoon sunshine.

Alta, UT: 90″ (230cm) in 7 Days

Upon leaving Vermont last Tuesday to work on a few projects in Utah’s Wasatch Mountains, we have witnessed Old Man Winter in his very best of moods. We sometimes wonder if Old Man Winter takes note of all those days we have skied in the rain and braved -25F mornings, and if this is his way of thanking us. Now, if we could only convince him to go easy on the Northeast with his mood swings, and show them a little bit of love!

Gone Wild on the Gaspe

Here’s a snap from a recent trip to Quebec’s Gaspe Peninsula, captured while navigating treeline in the remote and wild southern half of the Monts Chic Chocs – which are also some of the oldest Appalachian Mountains. We spent nearly a week traversing these mountains on a route we could have skied directly in less than two BIG days, and thus, we had plenty of extra time to enjoy the endless variety of ski descents these mountains have to offer. At night, we relxed, cooked meals and slept in the cozy, wood-heated huts maintained by Parc Nacional de la Gaspesie.

Wasatch Wanderings

After an incredible streak of skiing fresh tracks in the northeast backcountry, it was time to head west this week to work on a few assignments. Apparently, we have brought our Vermont snow with us! Here are a few quick snaps from our first full day out here in the Wasatch…

Blue Skies and High Fives

Thanks to Vermont skiers, Rachel Wood and Tyler Cohen, for sharing a few words and images from their skiing adventures in Vermont’s Green Mountains earlier this January….

In Northern Vermont, it’s a rare occurrence to find blue skies and fresh snow in the same day, but we came upon this perfect recipe in early January near Bolton Valley..
