Get Out There and Ski!

While many folks across the northeast woke up to rain and sleet Thursday morning, winter continues to charge away in the mountains – in the same way it has been all season: one snowflake at a time. Skiers were treated to a very healthy serving of snow across the Dacks and northern Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine earlier today, Thursday, and more snow is on its way! It’s possible that some mountain areas could pick up another foot of snow over the next 48 hours, so if you’ve been waiting for another good dose of snow before getting out there again, now is the time. Check out our weather page for details. Here’s a snap from Mad River Glen, Vermont, at about 1pm on Thursday.

Photo of the Week: Slip Sliding Away

The Adirondacks’ notoriously rock-, ice- and landslide-riddled terrain is finally starting to fill in with a respectable base of snow (better late than never!). It’s making for some incredibly fun skiing-oriented exploration of the many landslide paths opened and extended by Tropical Storm Irene last fall – like this little one featured here. Stay tuned for more images from the Dacks as the season progresses. Keep sliding… – Brian

Sun, Warmth and Mountain Snow is Nice… But How About a Storm?!

As pleasant as the weather and skiing has been over the last handful of days (photo here was captured on Tuesday in Vermont), it’s time for a good old fashioned snow storm! While we might not pick up more than a few fresh inches tonight and early Friday, let’s hope this lil’ storm brings snow to more than just the higher elevations, too… Ski you out there!

Photo(s) of the Week: Fresh Tracks and Fresh Ice

The ice capping many ponds, lakes and slow-moving streams is as good as it gets right now in the Northeast, thanks especially to persistent cold temps and minimal snowfall at lower elevations. Meanwhile, a nice coat of powder snow, although seldom more than boot deep, continues to characterize the off-piste and backcountry skiing in the mountains across the north country.

Vermont skier Andy Weis was on a mission Monday afternoon to make the most of what this cold and snow-starved winter has to offer, and he pulled it off feeling as good as he’s ever felt while out for a day on his skis. Several inches of fresh snow from Sunday night’s squalls didn’t hurt, nor did Monday’s steady winds – which swept the ice clean of any pesky snow. – Brian (Click on thumbnails below to view larger images)

Fresh ice?

Ice skates – Never go skiing these days without them…

VIDEO: Full Moon Freshies

What an incredible stretch of weather is upon us right now! With blue skies, sunshine and a big moon overhead this week, and varying amounts of fresh snow awaiting us for after (or pre-) work adventures to sheltered, mid-to-high elevation mountainsides…it’s been easy to keep the thin-cover worries at bay. More snow is in the forecast for the weekend. Let’s hope we get lucky, and at the very carisoprodol online least, enough snow falls and blows around to freshen things up again.

If you are near Montpelier, VT next Weds. Feb. 15 or Poultney, VT next Sunday Feb. 19, join us at one of our upcoming adventure skiing slideshows. Thanks. Ski you out there. – Brian
