Photo of the Week: Shin-Deep Singletrack

Although at least a few skiers managed to squeek in a few exciting runs on natural snow last weekend, Old Man Winter is apparently in no great hurry to get on with things. And that’s just fine. Meanwhile, the mountain bike trails continue to be relatively dry; there’s still wood lying around for 2012-13 that where to buy finasteride in singapore needs to be cut, split and stacked; and many folks are still picking delicious fresh salads from their gardens. However, wintry weather returned to the mountains Thursday night and more is in the forecast for the Thanksgiving week. It won’t be long now… – Brian

Thin Cover and Twisty Trails

We didn’t quite make out with the November snow of our dreams this past weekend in the northeast, but Friday’s mountain snows made for some genuinely fun thin-cover skiing. A solid dusting to nearly 2″ fell across the higher elevations Friday and Friday night, just enough to keep at least some of us off our mountain bikes til Sunday. What a beautiful weekend! We hope you enjoyed it, too. (Click on the photos within the post to enlarge…and yes, for those who are wondering…that’s Brennan!) – Brian

Photo of the Week: SNOvember Dreams

After a round of some really fun skiing through the Halloween period, some nice warm weather has all but wiped out our natural snow pack for the time being. And until Old Man Winter comes back around and settles in for a few good months, we have images like this to remind us of how great the month of SNOvember can be. (Of course, if you’ve got a hankering for some of that safe viagra online orders man-made stuff, both Killington and Sunday River are spinning lifts.)

Here’s to some snowier days ahead! (Click on thumbnail image below to enlarge. Thanks.) – Brian

Photo of the Week: Halloween Turns

After skiing like a super hero who we began to call “Ski-Ra”, a smiling Ski-Ra turned to us and declared, “I think I’m always going to ski with a cape. It’s so fun!”

Meanwhile, Matt Davis (below), our maple-sugaring, yurt-living, science teaching friend, dressed up like a regular skier, not wanting anything to interfere with his first test run on the extra pair of Marquette skis which we had brought along for him. After taking a look up the mountain, which had melted back a bit over the last few days, he was glad to leave his skinny and delicate rock skis – with their vulnerable edges and ptex bases – behind. An hour later, and a few turns into his run, Matt seemed sold on the go-anywhere, ski-anything nature of the Marquettes – which may just be the ultimate thin-cover quiver ski.

It was a glorious day to be out in the sun for a couple of hours, and it reminded us of the last time we all skied together last spring, when we carved fresh tracks in sun-ripened corn before tending to some other chores for the afternoon. We hope everyone had a fun Halloween.(Click on the photos below to enlarge to full size)
