Even with mountain snowfall in the forecast for Friday night into Saturday – and next week, too – there’s no doubt that Spring is finally here. With this past Monday night’s fresh snow, and then relatively cold, powder-preserving temps prevailing through mid week, Wednesday shaped up to be one last fantastic day to be out with Old Man Winter at the helm. (Photo was captured Tuesday at sunset). While we know he’ll be kicking around where to buy lorazepam online without prescription here and there for at least a few more weeks, it’s hard not to feel a bit sad to see him packing his bags for the warmer months ahead.

Meanwhile, sliding around on-piste will be sweet Friday, especially if it clears in the afternoon. And by sunrise Saturday, it should be snowing steadily again, which will set things up for another incredibly fun weekend in the mountains.

Ski you out there.

Photo of the Week: “Time to Ski, Dadda”

Our two year old daughter, Maiana Snow, prepares for some top-of-the-mountain ski time after riding on her dadda’s back into a favorite powder stash along Vermont’s Green Mountain divide. After a skiing a few mellow pitches b/w our legs, or those of her good buddy Ian (see second photo), or whoever else is along that day, she swaps the skis for another ride on dadda’s back…”down, down, down….whooooooosh!”, as she likes say… before doing it all over again. Maiana often logs 2-3 runs in the backcountry in a day, sleeping through at least one run, so long as we time things well.

Photo of the Week: Forrest Flying

Yes, forest is usually spelled with one “r”, but in this case, it’s our friend Forrest we’re talking about here. Forrest likes to fly when descending a deeply snow covered and relatively steep hardwood forest, especially when there’s an abundance of flight-assisting ledges, downed trees and boulders scattered about…and especially when it’s mid March – and spring is just around the corner.

Photo of the Week: Sunset Session

Two months into an unforgettable run of beautiful powder skiing here in Vermont’s Green Mountains, Dave Bouchard slides into a nice one – still as stoked as if he hadn’t seen it snow in weeks.

For the first time since late December?, temps climbed above the freezing mark in the mountains today. All but the highest, steeper and most northerly aspects were significantly affected by this little taste of spring, but there was still beautiful powder snow to ski if you knew where to look for it. Colder temps and snowy weather is on its way back to the mountains later this week and weekend, with the potential for some upslope snow Weds pm into Thursday, and then a storm over the weekend.

Let it snow!
