A Snowy Season Ahead? …Some forecasters think so.

Many forecasters believe the coming winter could be another snowy one for the mountains of the northeast, thanks in part to a prevailing La Nina condition in the Pacific and the effect this could have on the jet stream pattern for our region. According to the report on Accuweather.com’s Meteorloical Madness blog, “…The cold will be back in the Appalachians, and that will lead to heavy snow in that area.” Sounds good to us! Take a look at the graphic above (courtesy Accuweather.com) and read the full report on the Accuweather.com website HERE. Then again, Mad River Glen’s take on the forecast is worth a look, too (below).

Photo of the Week: Skier Nutrition… Kippered Snacks

Our good buddy Brennan could be the international ski industry spokesperson for Brunswick’s “Kippered” Seafood Snacks – Boneless Herring Fillets. He considers them to be one of the ultimate skiers’ foods… They are loaded with calories and lot’s of other good stuff (like Omega-3 fatty acids). They’re easy to carry and even easier to cache when preparing for a multi-day ski traverse. And they’re inexpensive.

Best of all, the wrapper matches his favorite wool-flannel ski shirt… Brennan, is this a sponsorship thing?

Vermont’s Garmont Heading West

Garmont – maker of fine alpine and telemark ski boots – will soon be joining the ranks of formerly-Vermont-based outdoor companies that are now located elsewhere. During the remainder of 2011, the Williston, VT – based Garmont (maker of high quality alpine touring and telemark ski boots, running, trail and hiking footwear) will be moving to Portland, OR. We will miss them. You can read more about this development in a recent story published in the Burlington Free Press – LINK.

Photo of the Week: A Mid-Summer Night’s Dream

Maybe it’s all the heat… Our dreams lately have been filled with imaginary ski adventures among friends, seemingly endless backcountry descents and the cold and refreshing sensations that accompany deep powder snow. It must be the heat…
